Supported Devices and Operating Systems

RetroDECK currently supports x86_64 Linux systems. Support for additional architectures may be added in the future.

Our community is continuously experimenting, and many users enjoy running RetroDECK on a wide range of new and unique devices.

Steam Deck

RetroDECK was originally designed with the Steam Deck in mind. The project began as an effort to create a unified retro gaming platform for this device.

Linux Desktop / HTPC / PC-Console (Steam Machine)

RetroDECK runs on standard Linux desktop systems, though its advanced hotkey functionality depends on Steam Input for full support.

For the best experience, we recommend using a distribution that includes a built-in “Game Mode,” such as SteamOS, Bazzite, ChimeraOS, or similar gaming-focused Linux distributions.

Other x86_64 Linux Handhelds and Devices

RetroDECK is compatible with various x86_64 handhelds and systems that support Steam Input, including devices using PlayStation, Steam Deck, or Xbox controller layouts.

RetroDECK has also been successfully used on Windows-based handhelds after replacing the original operating system with Linux.
