Beetle VB Core - Displaying Virtual Boy Games in 3D
The Virtual Boy originally used a stereoscopic display to create a sense of depth, similar to early VR headsets.
Beetle VB Core can recreate this 3D effect using two different methods.
Using a Non-3D TV (Anaglyph Mode)
If your TV does not support 3D, you can still experience depth using anaglyph (red/blue) 3D glasses.
- Launch any Virtual Boy game from ES-DE.
- Open the RetroArch menu.
- Go to Core Options.
- Enter the 3D Mode submenu.
- Select Anaglyph.
- Put on your red/blue glasses and enjoy the 3D effect.
Using a 3D-Compatible TV (Side-by-Side Mode)
If you have a TV with active or passive 3D support, RetroArch can output a proper 3D image for your glasses.
- Launch any Virtual Boy game from ES-DE.
- Open the RetroArch menu.
- Go to Core Options → 3D Mode.
- Select Side by Side.
- Go back to the main RetroArch sidebar.
- Go to Video → Scaling → Aspect Ratio.
- Set Aspect Ratio to Custom.
- Put on your 3D glasses and switch your TV into its 3D mode.
