Flips (Floating IPS) Patcher - General Guide

Flips (Floating IPS) is a lightweight, patcher that supports both .ips and .bps formats, allowing users to apply and create ROM Hack patches.
You will find Flips inside the RetroDECK Configurator as its own component.

Before You Begin
- Always back up the original ROM before patching or modifying anything.
- BPS patches are recommended due to better accuracy and safety.
- Ensure the ROM used is the exact version required by the patch.
- Errors generally indicate a mismatched or modified base ROM.
- When applying multiple ROM hacks, check compatibility and follow the recommended order, as it can vary for each hack.
Applying a Patch (IPS/BPS)
- Back up the clean, original ROM before making any modifications.
- Select Apply Patch in the Flips window.
- Choose the patch file (.ips or .bps).
- When prompted, select the clean, unmodified ROM required for the patch.
- Choose where to save the patched output ROM.
- The patched ROM is now ready.
- Rename the new file accordingly.
Creating a Patch
- Select Create Patch in the Flips window.
- Select the original, unmodified ROM.
- Select the modified ROM that contains your changes.
- Choose a filename for the patch Flips will generate (.bps or .ips).
- The patch file is created and ready to use.
